Work and school have kept me busy and occupied over the last three months and I have not made the time I should have for this project; posts have been few and far between, but that is about to change.
December 25th marks the first anniversary of the start of Cabinet of Curiosities and I am excited to be entering the second year filled with new ideas for this exploration of nature, life, death, light, and oddities. When I started, my goal was to shoot one still life a week and that turned out to be a bit too lofty; this year I am aiming for one shoot a month, and anything extra I can fit in is even better. My collection of flora and fauna remnants and pieces has grown, and I have broadened my scope of what I want to include in the upcoming photographs. As I type this post, I am sketching plans for a Christmas Day shoot with newly acquired skulls and bones. A date has also been set for a second collaboration with artist Shannon Drake in January, which I cannot wait to get started on. Thank you for joining me on this journey, new still lifes will be up soon. It may be slightly early, but since we are less than a week away from the anniversary of the start of this project, happy New Year! 2016 promises to be full of adventure and art! Created on October 31st, 2015, Untitled 19 was inspired by and composed in memory of my dad. Halloween was his birthday, and I knew I had to make time for a still life that day. The weather was perfect, a little stormy with dramatic light, and as I set up my table, camera, and subjects by the window I use for these photographs, I could feel him with me; this project was started to honor him and remain connected with him and his work after all. The resulting image is one of my favorites to date, and I hope you it enjoy too.
