Collaboration

Over the past weekend I had the opportunity to collaborate with a friend and fellow artist on a project branching off from the Cabinet of Curiosities series. While we have been close friends for over twelve years now and admirers of each other's work, Shannon and I had never combined forces before. Shannon is not only a talented painter, but the creative mind behind the trailblazing brands The Dirt and Jambo Superfoods. Going in to our art filled weekend I was slightly nervous: just as you never really know someone until you live with them, you really don't know how a collaboration will go until you try. Every artist I have ever known has their individual working style and preferences but in fact, I had nothing to worry about.

From the start, the two of us were on the same wavelength: we smoothly transitioned from composition to composition, we worked off each other's energy, and our individual ideas complimented the other's. This collaboration was an experience that left me feeling reenergized, inspired, and already looking forward to our next project.

As I mentioned, the images we created are an offshoot of the long term Cabinet of Curiosities series so the photos focus on the natural world, natural lighting, the circle of life and death, and ordinary debris displayed in a way that cherishes their existence. Though we have not decided for certain on a title, we are considering Sacred Objects and would love to hear your thoughts.

Below is a sneak peek, an unedited portion of one of my favorite compositions of the weekend. I think I can speak for Shannon and myself when I say we are excited to show you the rest. They will be out soon.

Wonderful light, beautiful color, intriguing composition and shapes...love the highlights against the dark background. Really draws me in to the slightly spooky mood. Looking forward to more !
